MCM - Work goes on.

MCM - Work goes on.

Mennonite Church Manitoba general operations

This is a unique time for all donation funded church organizations. Given uncertainty of finances in this time we are exploring Government subsidies for salaries and hope to have information for our staff and congregations soon.
The MCM offices are officially closed but the staff can still be reached through email. Addresses are available on our website.

Camping Ministries - Camps with Meaning

Camps are currently closed for rental groups. We will reopen when Manitoba health officials permit.

We have struck an Oversight Committee comprised of members from Camp Koinonia and Assiniboia, a medical doctor, former Summer Program Directors and MCM staff. The committee is reviewing and will make recommendations on our summer program and will devise policy around Covid-19 management should summer camp proceed in some fashion. By mid-May at the latest, we will determine programming options. A final decision on whether we will go ahead with an on-site summer camp program will be decided, at the latest, by June 1.
Summer leadership staff have been meeting over Zoom, and are full of good and creative ideas for the summer.

Leadership Ministries

Rick Neufeld has been in online Zoom conversations with Pastors.

During these days of high anxiety and physical distancing, there are plenty of opportunities that the church can live out its purpose.   Through acts of care and compassion, the church is sharing God’s love with its community through many tangible ways. MCM Pastors from the Southern Cluster have shared the following vignettes:
  • 16 homemade pizzas were delivered to community neighbours and friends
  • Small token gifts of recognition and thanks were hung on doorknobs of church education volunteers
  • Chalk messages of hope and encouragement were written on the sidewalks for church members and community support
  • Young children of a small congregation were contacting senior members of their congregation via email or FaceTime and relationships continue.
  • Creative ways of worship are being explored and posted and inviting people to leave room for God’s spirit
  • Virtual communion services are being developed via ZOOM for Good Friday worship
The gifts of the church continue to be shared in these difficult days. God’s love is made visible in countless ways. Tell us about how God’s spirit is moving in your community and congregation.

Kathy Giesbrecht has also been in Zoom meetings with pastors.
Youth Pastors/Sponsors across MCM, have been creatively and compassionately reaching out to our youth and their parents. Examples of their creative care include: Care package drop-offs ( accompanied by waves from the drive way), hanging out (online) doing: Bible study, prayer, check-ins, cooking, school work, and group games....and one youth group had envelopes and stamps dropped off, with addresses of seniors in the congregation! Along side these efforts, there has been energy put into texting/Instagram/ Facetime.
Specific Story: Lizzie Schrag ( NKMC) sends out recipes to her group, gives time for the families to secure needed ingredients, and then then gather online to cook together. Next week they are taking on baking with yeast!

Pastors have also expressed nervousness about vocation and ongoing work.

Faith and Life Choirs

It is unlikely that the late-May spring concerts will be on, but we are waiting to see how things develop.

Be well

As always, MCM staff appreciate your support: financial and prayerful. We pray that you are keeping safe and well.
